Be aware that Mantic's figures are produced in a couple of different ways -- they have a hard-plastics production making multi-part figures. The sci-fi vehicles and some of the Warpath figures -- these are pretty good (I don't know who is moulding them, it might well be Renedra).
They also produce softer plastic figures -- which are the things like Deadzone/Star Saga ones are. They're OK figures, but sometimes are a bit soft on detail; they need careful undercoating (to not flatten them anymore) and some delicate painting. They don't come out very well with colour-and-wash painting. They need more of a Dallimore style with some exaggerated highlighting. They also arrive pre-assembled and pre-based in bags in boxes -- with duplicates in a lot of cases -- and therefore you can't buy different quantities from the boxes.
Someone else to consider might be Warlord's Antares range. They often sell them as individual sprues and one of those would be half a dozen figures. I recently bought a load of their "Modern Infantry" for a quid a sprue, each of which makes 4 guys; RPGs/AKs/M14s/ARs/SA80s -- that sort of thing.
Ramshackle's stuff is quite fun -- it's almost all resin, so you have to be prepared to prep & assemble hard resin, but the figures are nice and can be customised easily.
If resin is OK, you might also consider Anvil Industries. Bit expensive, but lovely.
