In case anyone else wants in on splitting postage for a bunch of really good paintbrushes.... My personal faves are these: Rosemary & Co, Series 33I use: 10/0 | £4.35 | Really dinky stuff | 2/0 | £4.55 | General purpose detail painting. | 0 | £4.69 | Area painting. | 2 | £5.15 | Blocking in colours, washing &c |
I will caution three things: - They do wear out painting on metal. (I get through about 4 of the 2/0s a year at the moment.)
- They are an animal product and hence not vegan-compatible.
- They're sometimes illegal to take into the United States on a month-by-month unpredictably varying basis. (Stupidly long story)
If we can get an order totalling more than 40 quid, it's shipping free.

That would be a lot of brushes for £40! If you are going for an order the most I would want is 2 small ones, so that's not going to help much with hitting that target figure.

That look right? The Ely shop's not bad but I refrain from going to Ely too much in case I run into the ex... I am off to Partizan tomorrow. Don't know if I'm in on Monday yet. Builders, plus new job on Tues.

I got a bunch of storage foams. A copy of "Battlegroup Barbarossa". A copy of "7TV: On Location".
I did not get the half-size storage foams because FiC hadn't got any in stock. They HAVE got a new line in foams sized to fit A4 Really Useful boxes. Only one kind so far which has the 1x2 inch slots. I mention this because they may be more practical than the ones needing custom boxes. They're still getting up to speed from the take-over and so haven't sorted out the website. They might be able to do pre-orders before Other Partizan.
I did not get the Elf minis I wanted because Foundry didn't get my email so they're posting them.
I did not get the Mantic terrain I was after because it's still on a boat. They're expecting it in July now. This is generic fantasy battlefield scatter terrain. I said hi to them; they're having a great time. They've got a decent production line of games coming through so every show now has new releases and they're very cannily adding in long-term-selling generic stuff to each themed range -- Mars Attacks gave them ruined buildings, Star Saga gave them generic sci-fi interiors, Walking Dead produce post-apocalypse scatter terrain... and they're selling those in separate packs for people who don't play the systems but can use the bits. Nice guys and a nice plan.
And not the book I was hoping to get. Because Dave at Caliver's wife picked it up to put in the van, got bored while Dave was taking a longer-than-expected evening constitutional due to dropping his jumper and not noticing until ages later, started reading it, took it back into the house because she'd got to the bit about howitzers and it was interesting and forgot to pick it up this morning and put back in the van. So they're posting it.
I watched a game of "What A Tanker!" which looks like it could be a decent game. Sort of a cross between Bolt Action's dice rolling coupled with the Star Wars spacecraft game.
I talked to Grubby Tanks who've taken over running Redoubt; they underestimated the task of taking over. They looked a bit over-whelmed.
I looked at the new ECW figures from 1st Corps. They are very nice and 5 pounds for 4 which is damn good for metals.
There were many nice games to look at.
I looked at Dr Mike's latest stuff. He has been painting 3mm -- THREE MILLIMETRE -- Ultramarines... and hand-painted the omega symbols on their shoulder-pads. He's just taunting us all now.
In other news, while digging through the garage, I found another box which produced: some more of the GZG oop Ma.K robots (long story short -- there was a spate of C&Ds issued round the industry back in the early 2000s which led to a lot of lines being dropped including these cool 28mm walkers. So I bought their entire remaining stock of them. Which I, of course, promptly lost and have now found). There was also bag containing a bunch of Kryomek and Colonial Marine SWAT. I knew I had more of the things somewhere and lo, I do. Including hybrids with claws! There were also some Orky spacecraft models I made in the 1990s and some medieval buildings from the Ian Weekly reproductions line. Can't recall if I bought them from MM who now do the range or Coritani who had it for yonks. Anyhow, they'll be fine with a repaint. They're in expanded foam, so light, so can be brought for LR/DR/FW games.
I have finished painting Space Orks for 40k: Just need grass gluing to the bases. Waaaaaagh!!

Thats sounds really. Keep on meaning to go to one of these but was busy this weekend. Will try to get to the other one this year. Maybe we should get a club demo game up there.
Necromunda team painting going well.

<<They're sometimes illegal to take into the United States>> Only sometimes? They should be all the time at the moment - without a CITES permit set at least. Same for entering into the UK, actually. While the specific mustelid that they use for sable/Kolinsky hair is not the hideously endangered one, nor the later replacement one, it is according to them and other sources from the Siberian Weasel. That species is listed by at least one country on Appendix III of the CITES list and so requires the right documentation (that would include moveing personally owned stuff as well by the way. The only way I can see it not seeming illegal all the time is people see commercial movements (under licence) and/or have successfully carried and mailed the items without the people noticing or checking properly giving the impression its sometimes allowed (as opposed to reality being that sometimes people get away with it).

Apparently it depends on whether there are suitable certificates of import/re-export available to cover them. Many traders don't bother getting the paperwork done because EU and FE countries don't worry about it and tend to informally work on the basis that if it's coming from the right bit of Russia it's not actually the CITES covered stuff. They only do paperwork for really large volumes. And this means that SOME of the time, there are certificates available to be attributed to a US trade but they run out after a certain volume and then it's illegal again...

Sorry but thats people sneaking it through then. The EU is damn hot on CITES being followed as I have had to fill in enough forms for it and every sample I have moved has been research exempt. There is CITES harmonisation within the EU to work with free movement of goods so people are cavalier about it, but it nearly cost us about fifty samples once. The fact its not samples from the Appendix III territories doesnt alter that, its what allows it under licence....

No, sorry, I got side tracked by CITES stuff, since its one of my things. I still have too many brushes unused in stock.
