Hello all,
Not going to be at the club tonight, but wanted to see if I could organise players for a game I would really like to get played in the near future.
Root is an asymmetric ‘COIN’ style ‘war game’, designed by Cole Werhle, in a Redwall-esque setting.
It plays 2-4 players, but apparently is best with 4, and, according to the box, takes 60-90 minutes.
Now, because of the asymmetry in the game it requires players who are going to pay full attention to the game and who are prepared to do some heavy lifting in terms of learning how their faction plays.
So, given all that, who is interested in playing?

I could be interested.
We could intersperse it with it playing "Mice & Mystics" (Also Redwallesq) which I'd like to do more of!

Does look interesting. Been looking at reviews. Will research further to get a better understanding
As to Mouse game, would definitely like to follow the story arc through. Would we need to start from scratch. Found pictures of Nez card at close of last session.

Sweet. Will everybody be at the club this coming monday (10th)? I’m planning to be there, and should have finished reading the Learning to Play rules, so can bring it along then. If people want to choose, the base game factions are: - Marquise de Cat. Wishes to exploit the Woodland, using it’s vast resources to fuel her economic and military machine. Scores by constructing buildings. (Cats) - Eyrie Dynasties. Wish to reclaim the glory of their once-great aristocracy and retake the Woodland from the Marquise. Score by building and protecting roosts. (Birds) - Woodland Alliance. Wish to unite the Woodland against their oppressors. Score by spreading sympathy. (Mice) - Vagabond. Wishes to gain fame, or infamy, in the midst of the brewing conflict. Scores by completing quests, and aiding or harming other factions. (Raccoon) I’m happy to take whichever faction is left. Player order is determined by the factions chosen (they play in the order they’re listed above), though. But there is a walkthrough of the first two rounds, that we can use to get started. More info on the game can be found here: ledergames.com/root/boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/237182/root

You can download the rules from board game geek.
If I could make a preference it would not be the bird clan. Am sure I would get into turmoil way too easily.

Birds look really interesting, but probably the hardest to play (well).

There are two other factinos in the downloaded rules from boardgamegeek. Are they expansion races, or do they only come in in smaller or larger games?

Lizards and Riverfolk?
They’re in the Riverfolk Expansion. Which I do have. But I want to play with just the base factions first. My understanding is the expansion factions are more complex.

They looked slightly more meta- in construction, certainly. At least I can skip those sections in the rules though.....
