OK, so I ordered a proper rulebook (and some more figures to complete guerilla sections and bavarians).
I also managed to find a PDF of the 3rd edition rules.
The good:
The turn sequence is different, but it now doesn't need orders. There's a "moving phase" where normal move/shoot happens, an "aiming phase", where figures which haven't done anything can shoot with a bonus and a "reload phase" where figures without any markers can reload their weapon. I think this'll work a lot better. (I think also we can get away without recording any changes on the squad sheets so no writing at all).
The bad:
They've gone back to something like 1st edition shooting and there are sums involving percentages as well as column shifts. This might get complicated.
I can't quite work out how initiative will work in >2 player games.
(And some of the points values have changed.)
I'll have a read through when it arrives and come back with more news.

Katie,
New rules played extremely well, the tokens/counters helped as well.
Would be interested in a larger game, players or figures.

I'm doing reasonably well on an armylist builder. It's slightly more fiddly than my ACW system because there's some complicated interactions between choices and the eventual output has to fill in those forms, but it's getting there.
Supply train figures and field engineers are in the undercoat booth. French Light infantry are nearly painted and I've got Dark Elf guerillas and Dwarves next up for assembly.

OK, have done a bunch of paperwork for FL3. Available here; www.fysh.org/~katie/wargames/downloads/flintloque3/ are roster sheets, tokens, rules, quick refs. Some of them are official AA files, some of them are the usual home-brew additions. The points system is different for FL3, and it seems that 300pts makes a nice sized section so I've tweaked figure-counts/weapons etc to fit that.

That worked a lot better, those tokens are a real game changer ;-) . And the minis are brilliant . Worthy of a demo game I think.
Dwarves don't seem that good value for the cost but that was my fault, should have stoppef behind first wall and double loaded earlier.

I think the Dwarves need another figure really; another musket with the double-load ability would make them a lot more shooty even if some of the others have to be down-skilled a bit to buy it. (You kind of got what was in the 2 blister packs there :-)
I'm thinking the same for the Dark elves -- they don't really benefit from Veteran upgrades that much because their base stats are quite low to begin with... whereas extra numbers would let them use the +1 impact in melee better. (They also are just the contents of 2 blister packs).
The concern from the perfectionist in me is that those are all the figures in those ranges so extra chaps would mean either duplicates or having to do modifications...
I'll have to get the undead rules as well -- I've got some figures[1], but I can't find points values for them to work out what additional figures I'd need to make units to order at the same time...
[1] The only humans in the rules are dead ones; There are orc zombies, dwarf zombies, toad zombies... and just zombies. Which must be humans. But there are no *live* humans in the game... Also, someone else pointed out, the zombies are armed with farming implements. But it's quite clear in the background that the lands of the Star Wraith are entirely populated by the undead... so why do they need farms?

OK, reply has arrived to rules questions.
1. The dwarf who had to flee out of melee -- yes, he's limited to the Slow March; the rules for being trapped in Melee override the rules for fleeing.
2. Using CP to activate figures -- they don't need to make activation tests, the leader spending CP overrides that.
3. The Light +1. That's an interesting one. It's +1 *action* during coordinated actions if everyone in the unit is Light. So yes; the activated figures could shoot, move AND melee in the coordinated action. That sort of explains the cost of Light...

Quandry; do I get undead next or reinforce the existing sides with goblins (great soldiers/poor leaders) and toads (terrible soldiers/heroic leaders)?

Toads......no question, Toads.
But bear in mind that since this is faux Napoleonics that you have to go to the right level of detail on the painting, so just make sure the frogging on their coats is the right colour.

I was going to say something about you should let the undead lie but the pun slot has been taken I see.
Who are the toads supposed to be anyway !

Italians. Goblins are the Portuguese.
Apparently when they invaded Russia, the Italians (having heard the promises about short campaigns before in Spain) took their wives and kids along with them. Despite Napoleon *specifically* ordering them not to. But by the time he found out it was too late to send them back...

Quick question - have you got any info on melee weapon costs in any of your files....I cannot find them for 3rd Ed - though there are some bits in the 2nd ed files. Are costs the same or different as I think some Othari will need them....

It's missing from the "Lite" version of the rules, which is odd given that the figure and weapon costs are included -- I've added it to the Othari datasheet.

Are you able to run a Flintloque game sometime soon. I think I know what I want to order for sections but would like to get a game in to be sure I have it sorted out
