Good day, fellow player.
If you are reading these lines, you may well be the one I have been looking for...
I am a new dweller of the city of Cambridge, and wish very much to get back to play despite my being separated from my fellowship.
I play Dungeons and Dragons version 3.5/Pathfinder, Exalted and Vampire : the Masquerade, but may be ready to try other games upon your suggestion. Also, I enjoy entirely improvised one-to-one games, and I love to play several characters at the same time as there are so many concepts I want to try out, especially after months of elaboration.
Regarding the playing style, I am very serious about keeping realistic, sometimes even to the detriment of raw fun, as I see RPG primarily as real life enactment (however much fantasy is brought to the game) in terms of character's reactions, awareness, interactions and behaviours.
I play in a mature and sensitive fashion, which entails putting more emphasis on atmosphere and characterisation than on the mere combats/rewards stereotypical pattern. As such, I do not approve of character-to-character interaction being substituted to players-to-players communication, since a role-playing game, unlike a wargame, primarily interests itself with interpreting a role.(I would actually like to experiment playing with more physicality and use of space to make it more real).
As for the type of mastering, although I thoroughly enjoy delving deep in each rules system to best choose what I like and come up with great concepts, when playing I value a cinematic approach to the story which places the protagonists at the core of the plot and makes for an enhanced dramatisation and more fluidity in the game; I also like to rely more on the good judgement of the storyteller than on intricate rules or the systematic use of rolls which can't necessarily account for random, unrealistic effects.
In this regard, trusting the GM allows to keep the PCs' various personalities and specificities in his/her mind at all times, and thus to build on them, allowing the events to unfold with a sensitive connection to the characters. This results in a deeper experience on the part of the players who can really feel something - as in having feelings - about what they are playing.
Finally, apart from a genuine atmosphere, a rich roleplay and an attentive and committed involvement to the game, I am of the opinion that a great deal of the pleasure of gathering and playing together emerges from sudden comments and other fanciful digressions, but for this, everyone in the group needs to know and appreciate each other, so first let's meet and chat about one of our favourite topics.
Looking forward to meeting similar-minded people,
Romaric
