It's definitely the 2nd edition that I've got Chad. I never did get around to getting the 3rd ed rulebook before it fizzled out.

Hmm, I'll have to have a look on my bookshelves to see what edition I've got then.....

Yep, second edition for me too.
Now then, for a game..... I'm not available on 23rd, so it'll have to be 30 November or after - how's your diary looking?

Ah the 23rd is out for me too as that's Roleplay but any session after that should be fine for me as I'm not committed to anything.

I have 3rd as well as 2nd. I would say any of the army lists should still be reasonably fine under 3rd edition, especially if using a 2nd ed time period list against another 2nd ed time period list. 3rd Ed does clean some stuff up though 2nd is perfectly functional.
You will find that Russian tank lists from 3rd ed supplements are designed for use with that editions variant of Hen and Chicks which but the points cost change for that is fairly balanced. I used an old list under new rules and it worked generally OK.

Ah interesting Tim. It could be an idea to try 3rd if you're about that week and it is indeed very similar to 2nd. As Chad mentioned some late war Germans I'll be using my Desert Rats. (from the Villers Bocage book)

A pox on all these different editions! As we all have 2nd edition, could we agree to use that as the ruleset, or are there some 3rd edition updates that are very important to how peeps play the game?
So is the 30th a date then Dan? I found my Germans as I was looking for my elves the other week, so they're to hand! How many points do you want to play?

or are there some 3rd edition updates that are very important to how peeps play the game?? I'll dive through the list but Assaults are much better, with drive offs and similar possible. ATGs and man packed guns notably get some sensible revisions. The changes are not huge, but are in the main small tweaks that improve things or linked to specific nations. Just start with 2nd if people are familiar with it and we can do some third if people want. There is a summary in this PDF www.flamesofwar.com/Portals/0/Documents/ThirdEdition/SteppingUpToVersionThree.pdf

The 30th sounds good to me. 2000 points work ok for you?

See, this is why for fantasy we're playing a set of rules whose last additions were printed in 1993....

.....apart from the house rules.... And the several different versions of army lists with different troop stats and points costs! Still, there's a good game in there!

Be fair, though, gents, we do have Katie to collate all that stuff for us, saving us thumbing through ancient magazines or attempting to channel Nick Lund to answer our errata. FoW, of course, is current issue...
