Just to let those that are interested know (which I admit might not be that many....), there's a new 3rd edition of Field of Glory coming out at the end of September and available for pre-order here: www.caliverbooks.com/bookview.php?4udr0trcn1safnesico8lcafl1&id=25701. In addition, I've more money than sense (not too hard for me to reach this point), so I bought another ruleset 'Mortem et Gloriam' - I've not even received these yet, but you can see a review here: meeples.wordpress.com/2016/10/24/review-mortem-et-gloriam/. Looks like there's an interesting command and control element, plus special cards and dice (yikes!). Anyhow, if anyone fancies a stab at either of these games give us a shout. Cheers, Chad

I spotted the 3rd Ed FoG.....I still haven't upgraded from 1st yet myself so have no idea how much has changed in either the rules or the lists for either 2nd or 3rd editions.

I did cover the basic FoG V2 changes briefly in an earlier thread. In V3 I don't have anything concrete (until I get the rules that is), but from the discussions I recall that: 1) All troops will get an extra dice at impact (presumably to make impact more decisive potentially) 2) poor/Superior/Elite troops no longer automatically get rerolls for combat misses (hits for poor), instead it depends on the quality of enemy you're fighting - if you're better, you get a reroll. E.g. average vs poor = rerolls for the average troops; supervisor vs superior = no rerolls for anyone. Add a general and you're treated one quality 'class' higher, so superior plus general vs superior with no general = reroll for the troops with the general. I'm not sure what happens when you have two quality classes higher.... 3) Heavy foot were supposed to be getting some rules to make them move faster, whether that's a 4" move when marching (up from 3") or just a 4" move all the time. Not sure what they've decided upon. 4) New weapon - polearm - this will replace the heavy weapon assigned to a lot of lists (especially Chinese) and compared to heavy weapon gives a +1 versus mounted in the impact phase but only discounts one class of armour (so if your opponent is two armour levels higher they will still count as better armoured versus polearms). 5) There was discussion about introducing penalties for shooting for shooters moving, but have no idea what form this will take. 6) Light horse and light foot's influence on army break points was going to be reduced, so you can't fill your army out with cheap LF filler to bulk up the break point. 7) Different terrain set up/initiative rules - no idea what was finally agreed upon. 8) There will be new army lists - three books that the author is hoping will all be released by the end of the year: Volume 1: Armies from 3000 BC to 25 BC ..... all armies prior to the end of the Roman Republic. Volume 2: Armies from 25 BC until 1049 AD ..... All armies from the beginning of Imperial Rome until just before the introduction of the Medieval Knight. Volume 3: Armies from 1050 AD until 1500 AD .... All armies from the introduction of the Medieval knight onward.
The above, and the rest, will be speculation until I get a copy of the rules!
