Hi,
I stumbled across your board/group the other day and thought I'd introduce myself. I've been looking for a group who enjoy some boardgames, I haven't tried a huge range but I've played the usual - Catan, Carcassonne, Pandemic, Forbidden Island and all the usuals. I had a group I played games with back in Suffolk but now I'm living in Cambridge I was hoping to get involved a bit more locally.
I gather you meet up on Mondays, is there often something going on that I could get involved with?
I'm just hoping to pop along, meet some friendly people and play some games really!
Tom

Wander along -- there's ocassionally planned stuff, but there's usually a bunch of people playing whatever people have brought with whoever's showed up. Those games are the kind of thing that get played -- there's currently a lot of Blood Bowl being played, Formula De had a season of linked races recently. There's also often 15mm and 28mm wargaming of various types; and people are usually happy to loan starter armies to people.

Cool, I have played Blood Bowl a couple of times but it was a few years ago and I can't really recall the rules very well. I'm always up for some wargaming as well, started getting back into 40k but I'd be interested in whatever other war-games are going on?

Well, there's several people who play Flames of War. There's also several people with Fields of Glory ancients and renaissance armies. I'm quite a fan of Flintloque (fantasy napoleonics) and we've done Legends of the Old West ACW games in the past.
And I've just bought "Lion Rampant" which is mid-scale medieval and looks like being quite a good "clubby" game (not many figures needed to start, fairly quick games).
In smaller scales, Chris does napoleonics in 6mm brigade (?) scale and Tim's run a few games of ACW ship combat using "Hammerin' Iron". People also play Crossfire (WW2/15mm) sometimes and PBI (also 15mm). There's also been a couple of guys doing post-apocalyptic 28mm and we've had Warhammer FB/40K people around as well.
So lots of choice of there!

A typical Monday session will have two to three games going on, normally one is a miniatures game of some kind and the rest boardgames. If people organise things or there is an ongoing series of games going on that can change the balance the list above is the 'average' unplanned evening. In terms of boardgames - if you look in the library thread there is a list of what gets played or has been played. cambridgecitygames.proboards.com/thread/11/libraryThe cross section of boardgames this gives should be representative. You can also see the sorts of miniature wargames we play - we went through a phase of playing a lot of Flames of War (WWII) and that has faded somewhat although we have done a fair amount of PBI with some of those figures. There a re couple of 40k players, though my 40k game is Epic rather than the 28mm stuff. As Katie says the Bloodbowl is taking off, we currently have four players and Im adding a fifth team probably. The ladder/competition is designed for casual play particularly rather than a formal week by week league series as that is untenable in the club. There is an entire sub-board dedicated to it so take a look and see where you can get the latest living rulebook and how we are playing it. Link for that is cambridgecitygames.proboards.com/board/26/bbGames tend to be done on the 'turn up and see what there is' - this can sometimes mean quick reshuffles to make games playable. If you have something in mind then organising it here or the week before at the club does help make certain the right things turn up at the right time. So come on down, see if you can tolerate us lot in the madhouse......possibly even get a game in as well.

Sounds good, I'll try and come down this Monday!
*Edit* Looks like housemates have designated this as Christmas decorations evening, so I'll have to catch you all another night!

Next week is scheduled for our RPG group to play so a chunk of us will be in a side room. The rest will almost certainly be running a boardgame in the main hall so there is always something even when us weird dice people disappear off to our cave
