You are right about Historicals never matching GW, mainly because of their ever presence in the High Street. Not sure how that can be changed unless someone like Warlord Games tries to move to a bigger playing field, mind you their WW2 game is almost 40k regressed. If you want to escape the "elements" feel of DBM maybe you'll have to go back to WRG 7th ed.

Chad, I've had a re-think, it's probably easier for me to meet you at the club. A lift back would be useful. Version 2 of the rules in not problem, I'll dust off my copy. Thanks for the info on knights. I see most of the Roll Call competitions have sold out. I'm not sure what is happening with FoG. Both Slithering and Osprey are selling off existing stock, suggesting that they are cutting back on their support, and the rules seem to be dropping off in popularity (see http://blog.vexillia.me.uk). I guess we're at that stage where everyone is waiting for the next big thing in Ancient wargaming. Simon Ok, I'll see you at the club around 7, happy to give you a lift back.
