By the way, are we using any of the rules supplements, or just the basic set? I want to know how much reading I need to do!

Most of the rules are just in the basic set. There's a download of the "Companion" additional rules which is just the stuff for mortal players. So to play, you really only need to read; - fw-core-rules.pdf
- Relevant bits from fantasy-warriors-companion-newrules.pdf
- ComboOrders.pdf
- The Mxx file for your army.
- And maybe the Mxx file for your enemy....
The Boasts/Spells/Orders/Speeches/Weapons Summaries" collects together data that's already in the other rules in various places. You don't need to worry about the alliances/mercenaries complications if you only have 1 species in your army. I've got a printed out copies of the reference sheet and a set of token sheets to hand out...

We didn't use combo orders when Chris and I played, but Katie about sums it up, there's no gamechangers in the extra rules. Oh, and I finally have a shipping notice for the rest of my ratties!! I see what you mean about the service... I have placed and received a order which I though was pretty slow going, in the time since you placed that order. Let them come! Bring on the vermintide!

Can anyone recommend a sabot maker/seller for this? Either as singles or trays - and if trays what sort of size blocks do I need?
Thanks!

Well, you're going to find your units get lapped a lot more easily then though... Warbases have previously said they'll do us individual 20->25mm sabots at a decent price (cos they can just use the cut-out bits as 20x20 bases..) so if we collected requirements, we could get a bulk order in. Warbases also do the casualty counters which are nice ammo markers. (Other important diff from WH -- your missile units can run out of shooty!!) www.btowstore.com/ do them in resin. I'd suggest if you're going to do this, to limit to (say) 2x2 (being a 50x50 base) instead of the whole-unit ones. Without the house rules for bulk attacks, FW units tend to be wider/shallower than WH ones -- only 1 (sword), 2 (spear) or 3 (pike) ranks can fight and there's no bonus for deeper formations. Likewise only the front 2 ranks of archers can shoot. The previous Dr Who orders from BTD[1] were reasonably quick -- apparently they're doing some of the casting in the UK and some in the US, and so depending on what you order, sometimes it has to travel across oceans... It has, mind you, still been less than 28 days. I'm still pending a shipment from Redoubt as well.. [1] Warlord have been throwing about C&Ds so I thought I'd better fill out my collection of Harlequin figs. And yes, there's a ruleset.. which is all printed out and ready to go.

While writing up the Rat army (which is now assembled & awaiting undercoat bar the unit that's still in the paint stripper) I found the roster off of the back of the rulebook to be a) too small and also b) lacking some columns which could be useful. I've drawn up a new one! www.fysh.org/~katie/wargames/downloads/fantasy_warriors/roster3.pdfIt has boxes to fill in for things like the # of musicians, whether the unit is terrifying and if killing it generates command tests..

Well, I have 1000 points of Wood Elves waiting to take on what ever comes tonight. I forgot about the bleedin' sabots though - some urgent cutting will be required on my return home....

Hmm, interesting. Would we be rolling for weather as a random factor per turn or per game? While scouting obviously would cover terrain it seems to me the weather should remain a random factor regardless, especially given the amount of time given over to Waterloo this year... Weather is not considered in Fantasy Warriors. It is taken into consideration only in the Rules of Campaigns, where it influences the Movement of the various "Forces" that make up the two opposing armies.

Well, this is the thing, we were experimenting with the idea of adding it without breaking too many of the rules systems. I particularly liked the "overcast/bright moon" effect which was Chris' suggestion.
We've been toying with some more advanced terrain rules as well -- making fields "difficult terrain" means a lot of the battlefield ends up difficult when you're fighting in farmland areas and Rory's elves are getting quite deep into Profundia-Luthany's agricultural regions. But if you don't, then they don't really have a lot of effect..
And I think things like ogres should be able to smash fences down and so on.
