Well played, sir. I'm always glad to have a narrative.

'twas. An excellent ruleset with a solid 19th century feel. The rather disjointed schedule of reinforcements felt like an accurate byproduct of unreliable propulsion and communication technology. So far, so 1860s.
I think we pretty clearly set back naval architecture by about another ten years, also. Combined with Lissa, they'll probably be putting rams on ships well into the 1940s.

On the one hand, the infestation is getting worse by the day. On the other, the elvish fletchers are about to get an enormous government contract.
Our list of allies grows thin...

I have a box of weird, mostly sheer, rock formations in a nice fantasy-mars ochre colour which we could use for supporting pillars in a verminous labyrinth. Given that we are looking at minimum one, maximum three (!!!) rat players, it stands to reason the forces of light will have to venture down there for pest control at some point. Regular weather would have to be replaced by earth tremors (all units reduced to half movement) mysterious groanings from within the earth (shaken units test for panic) the occasional collapse (arbitrary missile attack from above) and of course permanent darkness (humans might want to bring that Sword of Light). We could also bring burning torches down there, which would remove the bad light penalty for units carrying them without inflicting the bad light penalty on dark-dwelling enemies. They would also give a bonus to anyone shooting (as per the Sword of Light) and if the unit became shaken they could be dropped (making them a somewhat inferior option to the surely unique SoL) Surface animals and stupid units would probably not like being underground. Also, Tolkien's elves have a penchant for underground cities. If my lads want to build a new Nargothrond or Menegroth we might have to clean out the scurrying locals. Especially since they seem to be breeding dholes, if a recent sighting off the coast of Jamaica is to be believed... EDIT: I also have some errata queries following a trawl of the rules. What does the quorum say to... #1: Chariots. Would they be rated as a mounted unit if placed in a scouting command? #2: Men-at-arms battle leaders/warchiefs and scouting. Given that the above individuals come free with Extra-Heavy armour, and that individuals and units in Extra-Heavy armour cannot scout, how do Men-at-Arms units scout?

I swear I've seen rules for it somewhere in your download section, but a big land-based dragon would be a decent proxy until it turns up.
Indeed I have seen the list of things... but no gelatinous cube.

I believe I promised you a game of Hammerin' Iron some time ago and didn't show on the day, so I'd be up for that.

One thing I would like to work into a campaign is recruiting weird & wonderful special units from far-flung locations. Night-gaunts, land sharks, gelatinous cubes etc. I'm sure we could come up with some reasonable rules for them if we put our minds to it.

Especially useful if we're looking to hammer together more points from disparate contingents!
So campaign-wise, we're looking at:
Major realms:
Ratmen (Chris) Men-at-arms (War of the Roses) Men-at-arms (Lannister) Men-at-arms (Stark) Barbarians High Elves Ratmen (Katie)
Minor/hidden/isolationist realms: Ratmen Wood Elves Dark Elves Undead
Anyone else? I don't have a full FW army of House Stark finished yet but they are in production and I'd like to have them in with the Elves as an allied contingent at some point.
EDIT: Updated with Katie's numberless legions...
EDIT II: Updated with Katie's limitless, terrible, ever-growing horde.
EDIT III: Updated with non-expansionist realms (players who want to join in but don't fancy the campaign scene).

Well, we know we can all manage 1000pts so that could be the standard garrison or expeditionary force, with 2000 points reserved for open warfare and 3K for the kind of climactic battle that sees the end of empires.

Priests -- yes, but in a way, the saving up for a big prayer is kind of the payback for not doing little interventions the whole way through. I guess that makes sense. Rather reminds me of the solar eclipse which occurred during the battle of Isandlwana. And having consulted the Silmarillion, it looks like it would be totally inappropriate to add a priest to a Noldorin army. Ah well. OK, so there is some interest for a campaign and reading through the old Mighty Empires, which I have never before done, it's a decently intuitive way of generating a map. There are a few unique-to-Warhammer bells and whistles (equinox magic, independent empires and the whole espionage system seem like busy work when we basically want to play FW against each other) but I can do a couple of sketches and we can talk it through next Monday? I have always wanted to do a map campaign so I would be prepared to to a good deal of organisational work if people fancy it.

OK I might drag my rats out on sabots then....better go download all that stuff from Katie's site....hmmm I knew I wanted to paint up that last skaven spearman and get the weapons men done.... That also works from a narrative point of view at the club - Chris' expansion into elvish territory has seen the rats expand, breed and factionalise... Katie, I'm up for your alternate priest rules, we should playtest them. My main concern with the ability to stack prayer tokens and follow up on a successful prayer is the possibility of a totally devastating intervention late on in the game. Might be worth restricting the amount of dice you can add to the re-roll. ...but I tell you what, it would certainly encourage me to bring a priest to the party.

Are you rebasing from Warhammer standards for this, or can it be done with a Warhammer army? I played the latest battle with my old warhammer army on sabots to increase the unit footprint. No substantive problems incurred by so doing, and is just an incentive to use movement trays, which cut down faff anyway. Get 'em on the table!

Some thoughts from my holiday:
Is our club fantasy universe starting to take a clearer shape now? Barbarians in the north, elves in the south, men in the west and rats in the east? Which is to say - should our next battle (whoever fights it, I am prepping a 2,000 point list so I am happy to do it myself) be over something clearer? The widest bridge in the region? A ruined temple or fortress? Or recapturing a lost standard?
Any thoughts on specific objectives for future scenarios? I can think of a few mouseholes I'd like to fill with boiling oil.
Also I sketched out a couple of designs for a campaign map which I can digitise if anyone's interested.

Well it was used in the last battle, but given it would be on the table for a moment, probably not.

Well that was a change of fortune. Rats winning a battle ! That should knock those so called 'High Elvesess' off their high pedastel. Fear the 'Bloody nines' beserkers. Yes, we were somewhat overconfident on the left flank and my warchief's blood ran cold when he realised he was going to have to sprint across the board himself to order them forward. A courier is a must next time. There's also a lesson in there about making best use of daylight while one has it... as it was we lost the dairy along with over a hundred tonnes of Blue Stilton. Mea maxima culpa. That squeaking! That hellish squeaking! Next project, paint some more archers, a bit more muscle for the front rank and some elvish runes as order tokens.
